Development Update (2026/8/23)
I'm currently building a new player home using Solitude architecture.
And as always, I’ve caught my chronic Modder’s Disease: "The interior keeps getting bigger than originally planned."
Well, thinking about players traveling with a crowd of popular followers, I decided we definitely needed extra bedrooms for everyone to stay in.
By the way... Take a look at this image. Notice anything strange?
It's a lovely arched ceiling, but this specific part right here is an absolute NO-GO.
It’s an architectural nightmare from a structural safety standpoint.
The base of the stone pillars and arches—which are supposed to extend all the way down to the ground to support the room—just end abruptly, suspended in thin air.
Here’s a quick breakdown of why this would collapse instantly:
No Path for Load Transfer (Discontinuous Vertical Load)
The absolute rule of architecture is transferring the weight of the roof and ceiling (dead load) vertically down through pillars and into the foundation. With this kit piece, the crucial axis supporting the heavy stone arch just cuts off mid-air. There’s nowhere for that top load to go, meaning it would crumble under its own weight the second it’s built.
Instant Destruction via Shear Stress & Bending Moment
Masonry and stone are great against compression (pushing force), but terrible against tension and shear (cutting force). With a massive stone arch hovering without bottom support, immense bending moment is applied directly to the joint. Forget earthquakes—this thing snaps and crushes you purely on self-weight.
Zero Resistance to Dynamic Impacts & Seismic Activity
When a dragon decides to crash-land on your roof to say "Hello there!", or when a seismic tremor hits, massive localized impact and horizontal forces shake the structure. Stone structures are already vulnerable to dynamic stress, but if the pillars reach the foundation, they can at least resist as a unified frame. Suspended mid-air like this? The moment a dragon touches down, stress concentrates at the joint like a pendulum, causing instantaneous, catastrophic collapse.
It pretends to be a heavy, rustic Gothic stone structure, but in reality, it's just a chunk of rock floating by gravity-defying magic.
By the way, right underneath this structural disaster sits the player’s bed.
Well... even if a dragon landed on the roof or a massive earthquake hit, the Dragonborn would probably sleep right through it. Or if they’re fully shouted-up, they’d probably just pop Become Ethereal ("FEIM!") and walk away without a scratch.
Still, I refuse to let anyone sleep under a death trap like this!
Time for a serious Seismic & Dragon-Proof Retrofit!
Added stone beams around the central base to form a complete grid (frame structure).
Connected the stone beams to pillars that extend straight down to thick Solitude columns on the 1st floor.
Evenly spaced main pillars ensure total peace of mind—even against sudden dragon visits!
Note: The 1st floor dining and living area is quite spacious and lacks central pillars, but that’s structurally sound thanks to the heavy stone transfer beams installed between the 1st and 2nd floors to redistribute the load from above!
Anyway, with all that taken care of, we’re currently working on the plumbing / bath area!
